worst case circuit analysis (WCCA) and SPICE modeling, has released a SPICE model
for the RH1959, Linear Technology Corporation’s rad-hard version of the popular
4.5A 500kHz Step-Down Switching Regulator.
The Linear Technology RHxxxx models are available without charge on AEi Systems’
web site (http://www.aeng.com/lt-models.htm). AEi Systems and Linear Technology
continue to offer customers and partner organizations (including M.S. Kennedy and
Aeroflex) assistance for circuit design and analysis with respect to use of Linear’s
radiation-hardened (RH) products in space and other radiation-hardened applications
under a special 2011 teaming arrangement (http://www.aeng.com/press/press-10.htm)between
the two companies.
Models Enable Switching Regulator Design, and AEI Systems’ Supports Accurate Step
Load Regulation WCCA using PDN Assessment
The newly-released RH1959 model is a state-space average model capable of performing
both transient (step load) and frequency domain (stability, PSRR) simulations, and
is correlated to the performance of the EVM for M.S. Kennedy’s MSK5059RH radiation-hardened
adjustable output voltage switching regulator. As a free service, AEi Systems will
make the correlation data available to enquiring engineers.

Typical applications include point-of-load regulators, Microprocessor/FPGA power
sources and high-efficiency low-voltage power subsystems. The products are an improved
replacement for the Satcon SAT8565, with adjustable output voltage from 1.21 to
5V and radiation hardness to 100kRADs. The parts are also fully Single Event Transient
tested.
